AI Is Helping Cybercriminals Launch Bigger, Faster Attacks

What Is Happening?

Google’s Threat Intelligence Group reports that attackers are moving beyond simple chatbot prompts toward AI tools that carry out connected tasks with less human involvement.

In one observed campaign, attackers used AI to plan, build and execute a mass credential-harvesting operation in under six hours after compromising a cloud resource.

Google also identified criminals targeting AI coding assistants and open-source software, alongside state-sponsored groups using AI to research targets, create convincing messages and assist with malware development. Read Google’s report.

• Keep software updated. Include browsers, extensions and integrations in your patching process.
• Monitor and prepare. Watch for unusual sign-ins, maintain tested backups and make sure employees know how to report suspicious activity.
