U.K. National Cyber Security Centre Warns of Russian and Iranian increase in hacking efforts

Russian and Iranian possibly sponsored hacker groups

The UK National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) issued a warning on Thursday about the increase in state-sponsored hacking. Russia and Iran have very specific targets. The attacks are not aimed at the general public but targets specified sectors, including academia, defense, government organizations, NGOs, think tanks, as well as politicians, journalists, and activists.

Why should you care about state-sponsored hacking groups?

This is a significant concern, as state-sponsored hacking groups are well-funded and have access to advanced tools and techniques that allow them to carry out highly targeted and sophisticated attacks. These attacks can be challenging to detect and can result in the theft of sensitive information that can be used for various purposes, including espionage, sabotage, and political manipulation.

Russians and Iranians are using spear phishing attack

This is a well-thought-out spear phishing attack. The threat actors could do hours upon hours of detailed research for a single send of a phishing email. They would look into all aspects of your digital footprint and more to try to get an angle to manipulate you into clicking a link. Masquerading as a legal person, friend, or retailer anything to lower your guard and trigger you. If you are interested in this topic check out our article Spear Phishing.
